October Update

Here’s a little bit of what’s been going on in our lives lately.

First, we really enjoyed General Conference weekend. We loved hearing the speakers and uplifting messages, and on top of all that we got to see family, introduce Carson to Grandpa Lyman, uncles Chris, Zach, and Luke, great-grandparents Lyman, and some other cousins and aunts and uncles, too. And we blessed Carson. It was a great weekend.

Carson with Dad the morning before his blessing. He was happier when the blessing happened, promise.

Then the next weekend, Grandma Ellsworth came to visit. Carson had a fun time seeing his grandma again, who kept trying to give him toys and get him to play (Grandma can’t wait to play).

We had a big dinner Sunday night with Grandma and my sisters and some friends. Ah, sisters. Love them. :)

While Grandma was visiting, we took Carson to his first restaurant: the BYU Creamery. Ah, such a Provo baby. Josh tried to feed him ice cream. Not yet, Josh. ;-)

Oh, and it snowed for the first time not too long ago! Just in the mountains. See? The weather’s gotten nice again, but it’s fun to feel fall on the way.

And then there’s just the normal but oh-so-amazing moments that happen every day with Carson.

We love all the cute faces, the new sounds. Oh, and Carson’s rolling over! He flipped from his stomach to his back one day and has done it several times since. Still trying to master it, though. :) We never could have guessed how amazing it is to just watch your brand new baby do the smallest things, like flipping over. We just think he’s the greatest. :) And we’ll post a video soon!

Our Calvin Snowman

If you’ve ever read Calvin and Hobbes, you’ll know what type of snowmen Calvin creates – full of character, pretty funny, and maybe just a bit morbid. In December we got the first big snow of the season, and Josh and I (inadvertently) created our own Calvin snowman.

He started out just fine, see?

We used some remnants of our Halloween costumes for the hat and glasses. Cute, huh?

But the next day, to our horror, we looked out the window and saw this:

Alas, someone had shot our snowman in the back! Okay, not really. It’s actually just another disaster with Rit dye (will that stuff ever stop haunting me?). I guess the hat had some traces of red dye on it. And then it rained during the night and, voila, our snowman has a red bullet stain on his back.

But the funny part is, our snowmen started to act like he did get shot. Observe what happened over the next day and a half (with no intervention on our part):

Tragic, isn’t it? And we didn’t even mean to make such a morbid snowman…still, he gave us a lot of laughs. :)

Hurricane Honeymoon

Our honeymoon was by far the most amazing thing ever, and quite the adventure as well! We had everything from ritzy hotels to completely hurricane-devastated beachfronts to see, and we enjoyed it all.

After spending the night at the Moody Gardens Hotel, we set off for Corpus Christi, driving along the beachfront from Galveston some 50 miles. What a crazy 50 miles it was! We continued “at our own risk” along a particular stretch of road that had been heavily damaged by Hurricane Ike, and some parts were even entirely washed away! We often found ourselves driving on straight beach. There were abandoned and irreparable beach houses, some half-fallen to the ground. Both Paige and I thought it was pretty dang cool! We took lots of pictures, you know, to show just how romantic the drive was. Check them out!

Days Go By

Well, February came and went and we’re well into March! Life is just flying right by. We stay busy with school and work and happy with everything fun we do, so life (though fast) is great. We thought we’d try to catch you up on some recent highlights.

First, we had a great Valentine’s Day! That evening we had a new experience as we went to a married ward dance. We weren’t quite sure what to expect (sometimes in our minds we still picture married people as old and boring), but it was actually really fun! We had a blast dancing the night away (well, at least the couple of hours we were there…)

This weekend we had a treat as Paige’s sister Brenn and her cousin Ashley were in town over spring break. On Sunday we had them over for dinner, as well as Audrey and Josh’s brother Sam. Everyone helped out by bringing food (and chairs, since we only have three of them), and we had a great time eating food, making crepes for dessert, and playing games. There was lots of laughter involved, and we all left very full. Sunday dinners with family are the best!

Finally, it’s March in Utah, but the weather has been great lately! We’ve had several weeks now of sunshine, warm weather, and cool nights. It’s so great! We are excited for spring to finally come. But with the warm weather and melting snow we did realize something about our yard…or really lack of yard. As the last snow melted, we realized with dismay that our front “yard” consists of dirt, weeds, clumps of spikey grass, and taller weeds…but, alas, no grass. One day as we were coming home we stopped to chat with our neighbor, who eventually asked us, “So, are you going to do anything about your yard…?” Well, haha, looks like we’re the neighborhood eyesore! It’s going to be one of our spring projects, should our landlord agree to help us out.

Well, that’s the news from the Lyman home. We hope life continues to be this good, because we’re really happy and we feel really blessed. Hope you all have had a great month as well!
