Dad of the year

I just love these two guys:

They’re at a father/son date at Sonic. Josh and I have been trying hard to keep up one-on-one date nights with the kids. We unfortunately haven’t been able to change the definition of “date night” in our kids’ minds. (Right now date night = Sonic slush.)

But I just wanted to say how amazing Josh is. It’s been a long year with a long pregnancy and now a newborn and postpartum mother, and Josh has done so much all year long, from cooking dinner and doing dishes to taking the kids to school and taking them out on dates. (And taking me out on dates, which is even better.) I don’t know how I ended up with the best husband in the world, and I just wanted to brag on him a little. :) Joshua is amazing!

Welcome, Grace!

Grace Lyman is here! Weighing in at 8 lbs 11 oz, she’s out biggest baby yet! She’s amazing and sweet and we all love her so much. I forgot how wonderful newborns are and I’ve felt like the luckiest one in our family because of all the time I get to spend with sweet Grace. :) (I’m also feeling pretty lucky/amazing to be not pregnant anymore!)

Welcome to our family, Grace! We’re couldn’t be happier you’re here!

I was listening to Carson and Annelise play together with a kinetic sand bucket the other day, and heard some sayings that pretty much can only come from a five year old. They were playing pirates when I heard the following exchange:

Annelise: Are the pirates in Colorado?
Carson: No, they’re in California. Only pirates live in California.
Yep, I’m training him well. This was followed a few minutes later by Carson narrating the following:
Carson: And the pirates buried their treasure and marked it with an X, and a sign that said “Please Do Not Touch.”
Must have been the Polite Pirates.
Finally, in what I can only imagine was a different game and scenario:
Carson: And the scientists, said, “Don’t touch it,” and everyone listened to them because scientists are the smartest and richest.
